RA'S AL HILAL, LIBYA, 2006
The project encompasses an enchanting area nestled within the verdant foothills of the Green Mountains, located in the northeastern region of Cyrenaica, Libya, which gracefully gazes upon the azure expanse of the Mediterranean sea. This captivating locale beckons numerous leisure seekers, enticed by a myriad of compelling facets that make it an irresistible destination. Firstly, it boasts an unspoiled haven of natural splendor, boasting pristine forests teeming with abundant flora and fauna, as well as a picturesque shoreline, inviting sun-soaked revelry. Secondly, the site exudes a palpable sense of history, having been a crucible for several ancient civilizations that once thrived within its embrace, including illustrious epochs like the Greek and Roman eras, along with the formative period of early Christianity, and more. One of the most remarkable highlights of this esteemed locale is its association with St. Marcus, who graced these very lands with his birth and subsequently inscribed the sacred words of the Gospel within the revered confines of the Valley of Marcus, further enriching the cultural and spiritual tapestry woven throughout Ra's al Helal.
The project itself endeavors to transform this alluring region into an unparalleled tourist destination, tailored to accommodate the needs and desires of discerning visitors. Comprising a meticulously designed ensemble of structures, it comprises a grand four-story hotel, boasting opulent accommodations for indulgent stays, accompanied by a collection of 26 charming chalets and 25 cozy bungalows that dot the landscape, offering a harmonious blend of comfort and tranquility. Additionally, a conveniently situated motel and a gas station occupy prominent positions along the main road, facilitating easy access for travelers. Completing the ensemble are various service buildings, thoughtfully integrated to enhance the overall experience of guests.
Throughout the development process, paramount importance has been placed upon preserving and honoring the intrinsic value of the land, ensuring that the project seamlessly coalesces with its natural surroundings. Meticulous attention has been paid to the delicate contour lines that shape this idyllic locale, culminating in an architectural marvel that harmoniously merges with the topography. Every room within the hotel and chalets has been thoughtfully designed to provide guests with awe-inspiring vistas, affording panoramic views of the breathtaking landscape that envelops Ra's al Helal.
It is worth noting that the realization of this visionary endeavor was a collaborative effort, with the client forging a partnership with an esteemed Italian contractor. However, fate dealt an unfortunate blow as the Italian contractor's presence was abruptly interrupted due to the tumultuous events that unfolded in 2006. In the wake of the devastating arson attack on the Italian consulate in Libya, the contractor was compelled to withdraw from the country, leaving behind an unfinished project that yearned for its intended fruition.
